Online Therapy for
Relationship Issues

Relationships are where we feel most alive — and where we can be most deeply hurt. Perhaps you keep the peace at your own expense and can't seem to say no. Perhaps you keep finding yourself in the same painful dynamic with different people, or conflict either escalates fast or gets buried in silence. Perhaps closeness itself feels risky, and you're not sure why.

An important note: this is individual therapy — you, working one-on-one with your therapist on how you experience and navigate relationships of all kinds: romantic partnerships, family, friendships, and the workplace. It is not couples counselling, and no one else needs to participate for real change to happen. In fact, some of the most powerful relationship work begins with just one person.

We provide online individual therapy for adults (17+) across Ontario struggling with repeating painful relationship patterns; people-pleasing and difficulty saying no; boundaries that are too porous — or walls that are too high; conflict that escalates or gets avoided entirely; difficulty trusting or letting others close, especially after betrayal or past hurt; complicated family dynamics and estrangement; and loneliness or disconnection even within relationships.

How therapy helps

Our work together typically weaves three strands. First, we'll help you identify and explore your relationship patterns and boundaries — where they came from, what they protect, and what they cost — while learning how to set boundaries that are healthy, clear, and sustainable. Healthy boundary-setting is one of our clinic's core areas of focus.

Second, we'll build practical interpersonal communication skills — including DBT-informed tools for expressing needs, navigating conflict, and staying grounded in difficult conversations — so that new insight turns into new behaviour.

Third, and often most transformative: we'll gently explore how past traumas and early experiences may have distorted the lens through which you see yourself and your worth. When that lens says you're too much, not enough, or only lovable when you're useful, it quietly shapes who you choose, what you tolerate, and how close you let people come. Using approaches such as Parts Work, EMDR, and somatic therapy, we can heal those older wounds — and when you begin to see yourself differently, your relationships begin to change too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this couples therapy?

No — this is individual therapy focused on you: your patterns, your boundaries, your healing. Many people do this work alongside, instead of, or before couples counselling, and it stands entirely on its own.

Can therapy help my relationship if my partner won't attend?

Yes. A relationship is a dance, and when one person changes their steps, the dance itself has to change. Individual therapy can shift how you communicate, what you tolerate, and how you show up — which often transforms the relationship, and always transforms your experience within it.

Why do I keep repeating the same relationship patterns?

Our earliest relationships form a kind of template for connection — what love looks like, what we must do to keep it, what we're worth... Until those templates are seen and healed, we tend to recreate them, even when we've promised ourselves we won't. The good news: patterns that were learned can be unlearned, and therapy is precisely where that happens.

Is therapy for relationship issues covered by insurance in Ontario?

Many extended health plans cover Registered Psychotherapist (RP) services; OHIP does not. We provide receipts after every session, and a limited number of sliding-scale spots are available.
