Online Therapy for Depression

Depression rarely announces itself clearly. It can feel like heaviness, like everything requiring twice the effort it used to. Like losing interest in things — and people — you love. Like guilt or self-criticism on repeat, a fog you can't think through, or simply feeling numb. Sometimes you can't point to a reason, and that can make it even harder to reach out.

If any of this is familiar, we want you to know that depression is treatable, and you don't have to figure out the way forward alone.

Our clinic's founder, Shirley Porter, M.Ed., RP, is a psychotherapist with 35 years of experience and the author of a published workbook on depression. Understanding and treating depression —  from a mind-body-spirit approach, with compassion and without judgment — is core to how our whole team works.

We provide online depression therapy for adults (17+) across Ontario experiencing persistent low mood, loss of interest and motivation, depression following loss, trauma, or major life change, burnout that has slid into depression, and long-standing depression that has resisted previous attempts at change.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I'm depressed or just going through a hard time?

Duration and depth are the usual clues: if low mood, emptiness, or loss of interest has persisted most days for weeks, and it's affecting how you function or how you see yourself, it deserves attention. In Ontario, formal diagnosis is done by a physician or psychologist rather than a psychotherapist — but you don't need a diagnosis, or a "good enough" reason, to begin therapy.

Do I need a doctor's referral to start therapy?

No. You can contact us directly and book a free consultation — no referral required.

Can therapy help with depression without medication?

Psychotherapy is an effective treatment for depression on its own for many people, and it also works well alongside medication. That choice belongs to you and your physician; we're glad to be part of a collaborative approach either way.

Is depression therapy covered by insurance in Ontario?

OHIP doesn't cover psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist, but many workplace and school benefit plans do — look for "Registered Psychotherapist (RP)" in your coverage. We provide receipts for every session, and sliding-scale spots are available in cases of financial need.

We're here for you when you're ready

We offer a free 20-minute video consultation so you can meet a therapist, ask questions, and see if we're the right fit — no obligation, no pressure.  Online sessions are available anywhere in Ontario.

You can trust that if our therapists do not have the competencies to provide the care you are requesting, they will tell you.  Our first priority is acting in your best interest.
